Generously, on clean dry skin, 15 minutes before you go out. Thin layers are where sunscreen quietly fails.

Thirty for everyday city wear, fifty for long hours in open sun. The formula, scent and finish are identical — only the filter load changes. If you're buying one bottle for everything, take the fifty.
What does Dark Haze smell like?

Is SPF 50 really much better than 30?

The honest answer is margin. The difference in UVB filtered is small, but SPF is tested with far more product than anyone actually applies — so a higher number gives you room for the layer being thinner than it should be. Applying the fifty properly beats applying the thirty carelessly, and vice versa.
Is it greasy?

No. It's an oil, so it goes on with slip, but it sinks in and leaves a smooth finish rather than a film.
Face or body?

Both. If you're prone to congestion, use less on the face or keep it to the body.
